RAK Ceramics Participates in 14th Annual UAE Clean Up Week
Ras Al Khaimah, 13 December 2015
RAK Ceramics P.S.C. (Ticker: RAKCEC: Abu Dhabi), one of the world’s largest hi-tech manufacturers of lifestyle ceramics solutions, is delighted to be taking part in the Annual UAE Clean Up week.
Taking place from the 5th – 16th December in conjunction with Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), RAK Ceramics’ staff will support a team of volunteers to clean up Ras Al Khaimah and the surrounding area by removing waste and garbage that has accumulated.
Commenting on the company’s participation, Abdallah Massaad, CEO of RAK Ceramics said: “Each year, the annual UAE clean-up campaign gives us a chance to lend a hand in keeping the UAE’s landscape clean and free from litter and pollution. As a socially responsible company, we are keen to support local initiatives that contribute to developing a more sustainable environment. We are delighted to be invited to take part once again and to help protect Ras Al Khaimah for our future generations.”
This is the 14th annual clean up event which has been organised by EEG and RAK Ceramics has been proud to participate in the event every year. One of the most common items to be collected during the regular clean ups are plastic bags and aluminium cans. Plastic bags are often mistaken for food by animals such as camels or donkeys. Once eaten, the bags are indigestible and can block the animals’ stomachs, leading to a slow and painful death. Taking thousands of years to decompose, collecting and disposing safely of plastic bags is crucial to providing a safe environment for wildlife in the area.
RAK Ceramics is a founding member of Emirates Green Building Council, which supports the development of sustainable buildings in the UAE and has consistently received recognition for its eco-friendly initiatives and sustainability best practices. The company was recently awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the Environment Protection and Development Authority (EPDA-RAK) and the Ras Al Khaimah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RAKCCI) for its successful efforts to implement environmental best practices throughout 2014.
RAK Ceramics previously received the Environmental Performance Certificate (EPC) from the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW) for its successful efforts to comply with UAE environmental protection standards and regulations, and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) for its active participation in waste recycling campaigns.
