The new district of Barwa City is located just outside the heart of Doha, and comprises 128 apartment buildings with 6,000 apartments, and 1,024 studio units.
The vision for Barwa City was to provide 25,000 families with a self-contained ‘city’ spread over 2.7 million square metres that included schools, hospitals, mosques, parks, shopping complexes, education institutes, health facilities and all the required amenities.
This flagship building project in Doha, Barwa City was completed in two phases – residential and then commercial. RAK Ceramics already had a proven track record of supplying high quality tiling solutions to other large building projects throughout the GCC region and was therefore selected by Bilfinger Berger Construction as the preferred supplier. Using a wide range of gres porcelain and ceramics, particularly chosen for their suitability in such a modern urban design, through our trade partners Nabina Ceramics, Doha we supplied the largest quantity of tiles ever for a single project in the Middle East.
Salt and Pepper unglazed gres porcealin series is manufactured using a dosing system with an optimum mixture of coloured pigments creating a speckled salt and pepper effect on the entire tile surface. The tiles are technically strong being highly resistant to chemicals as well as possessing a high breakage resistance. A heavy duty, durable tile, they provide the ideal solution for heavy traffic flooring in commercial and retail outlets.
The Roma series includes ceramic wall tiles and mosaics with complementary glazed gres porcelain floor tiles. The unglazed Riviera gres porcelain series has a strong resemblance to natural stone. With a breaking strength of 1600 N, the long-term durability of Riviera makes it an excellent solution for high traffic areas. Available in a choice of 8 colours, the series comes in rectified 60x60cm size allowing consistent grouting when installed on a large floor area. Rectified tiles have been mechanically finished on all sides to ensure uniformity and precision which assists with laying and grouting during installation.
